Our Mission

The mission of Prattville ReLeaf is to restore, enhance and protect the tree canopy of the City of Prattville and our surrounding sister communities.

Arbor Day 2009

Project ReLeaf will replace and increase the lost canopy by planting 1,000 five gallon trees, one for each residence, business, and city property affected by the tornado, on February 21, 2009.

Church of Living Water (staging area for event) 435 Sheila Blvd. Prattville, AL Event commences at 8 a.m. until all 1,000 trees have been planted and watered.

What is Project ReLeaf?

After the tornado ravaged through several of our neighborhoods last February, the City’s First Lady, Beverly Byard, noticed while traveling through the tornado-damaged area that there were few if any trees left. While we were blessed that there were no deaths and only two major injuries that have resulted in full recoveries, she felt it in her heart that she wanted to do something for the affected area. Her plan was to plant a tree in every yard hit by the tornado. Combining efforts through her garden club, the Yaupon Garden Club, she enlisted our other two area garden clubs, Down to Earth and Digger’s Delight to make the City of Prattville’s Arbor Day 2009 a celebration with the planting of 1000 trees – one for each home, apartment, business and/or commercial property damaged by the storm. This is a very ambitious project for a community of our size, but the “Preferred Community” is more than able to meet the challenge.
